Contemporary architecture and climate emergency: sustainable pathways between public and private

Renata Castilho Gilio Goorden

The panel "Contemporary Architecture and Climate Emergency: Sustainable Paths between the Public and Private Sectors" proposes a debate on how architects, urban planners, and other stakeholders have responded to the climate crisis through sustainable practices in different contexts. Drawing on experiences that intersect the public and private spheres, the panel will discuss strategies such as the use of low-impact materials, energy efficiency, nature-based solutions, and public policies for resilient buildings. The proposal seeks to integrate diverse scales—from public facilities to housing, including community and institutional projects—and open space for interdisciplinary, academic, and experimental practices. The goal is to share visions and methodologies that point to an architecture committed to environmental regeneration, climate justice, and collective responsibility for the territory. By bringing together different trajectories, the panel aims to build a common repertoire of best practices and strengthen architecture's role in socio-environmental transformation.
